Hardwood

It may be hard to believe today, but following World War II many American housewives were happy to ditch their mother's and grandmother's hardwood floors for more "modern" options. Today, new homeowners hope to find gorgeous hardwood floors beneath several decades worth of carpet, linoleum, and underlayment. If you were not lucky enough to find it, I am happy to install it for you.

While one of the most expensive options in flooring, there is nothing quite like a hardwood floor. Some worry about scrapes or small dents, but I think that just adds character. Not to mention, hardwood is unique in that it can be refinished several times before needing to be replaced. If you have the means, hardwood is a fantastic option for those seeking to add timeless value to their home.

Pros:

  • gets "oohs" & "ahhs" from visitors

  • adds value to your home

  • feels natural under foot

  • did I mention the "oohs" and "ahhs"?

Cons:

  • increasingly expensive

  • not suitable for high moisture areas

  • not ideal for some pets (think bored puppies & pet urine)
